SPECIALIZATIONlow temperature hydrothermal process; fluid inclusions, hydrothermal karst; isotope geochemistry; geological assessment

DESCRIPTION OF THE FIELD OF INTEREST

The main subject of my studies is mass-transfer in the near-surface low-temperature hydrothermal systems (interface between hypogene and hypergene settings). The main method used is fluid inclusion studies. When appropriate, it is combined with other instrumental methods (stable isotopes; trace elements, absolute dating, etc.).

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

1996 - present Associate Editor of the Annotated Bibliographic Database "Siberian and Far East Geology and Environment" (UNESCO-UIGGM).

1994-1996 Consultant to the State of Nevada; leader of the group of researchers from Russia, Ukraine, Canada, and USA, performing geologic-geochemical assessment of the proposed site for the high-level nuclear waste repository (Yucca Mountain Project). 14 scientfic reports have been submitted to the State of Nevada.

1993-1994 International Scientific Fellowship Award from NSERC, taken up at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (stable isotope geochemistry, U-series dating, fluid inclusions, and trace elements in low-temperature hydrothermal environment). Field work in South Dakota and New Mexico.

1992-1993 Studies of ancient hydrothermal systems in Transdanubian and North-Hungarian Ranges (Hungary), commissioned by Hungarian National Authorities for Nature Conservation.

1981-1993 Studying epithermal carbonate and ore mineralization in Russia, Ukraine, Kirghizia, Algeria, USA. About 40 publications including 1 monograph.

1989 International Speleological Expedition "Tyuya-Muyun ‘89", Kirghizstan; Scientific Leader (researchers from 6 countries).

AFFILIATION

International Speleologocal Union UNESCO - Designated Head of the Working Group "Hydrothermal Karst" since 1989

Geological Society of America - member since 1995

Mineralogical Society of Russia - member since 1986
